Breath and Beyond: Early Myofunctional Therapy

for Lifelong Airway and Oral Health

Amanda Zubricki, RDH, OMT

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy plays a crucial role in promoting optimal oral and airway health. This proposal aims to demonstrate the benefits of early intervention in identifying and addressing orofacial myofunctional disorders in children and adults. Early assessment and therapy can prevent or alleviate issues related to breathing, sleep, orthodontic development, and temporomandibular joint disorders. By combining OMT with a proactive approach, we aim to enhance long-term outcomes in airway health, oral function, and general well-being.

At the conclusion of this educational lecture, participants will achieve the following:

  • Highlight the significance of early screening and intervention for myofunctional issues that can influence breathing, chewing, swallowing, and speaking.

  • Understand the correlation between myofunctional therapy and improvements in sleep, TMJ function, and overall orofacial health.

  • Raise awareness about OMT as a preventative and therapeutic too among healthcare providers, educators, and families.
