Dentistry’s Top 5 Dirty Concerns

Deanna Otts-Whittfield, MSHQS, BSDH, RDH, CDIPC

Dental practices today often have different protocols that are conflicting and perhaps not in line with regulatory agencies. It is not uncommon that several age groups work together, which can bring about different learned behaviors generating legacy errors. Work practice variations occur within the dental industry that can contribute to a decrease in patient and employee safety, including the practice’ s reputation. Participants will assess the current regulatory guidelines and determine how to implement them into their daily duties efficiently to achieve a safer work environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify 5 areas of infection control practices that can hinder a dental practice’s efficacy.

  • Recognize and deconstruct legacy errors that pose concerns in infection control.

  • Evaluate current OSHA and CDC guidelines pertaining to infection control practices in the dental setting.

  • Interpret the reason WHY standards in infection control are important to maintain in every day practice.
